Roman Van Allen

Roman Van Allen

Roman grew up in the Burbank area of Los Angeles and moved to Reno when he was in tenth grade. He attended Reno High School and he quickly integrated with the close knit group of Ballers at the Boys and Girls Club, where he fit in right away. There are very few people in the basketball world that love the game as much as Roman. He’s the kind of person that never want to leave the gym: one more game, one final drill, one last shot. Both a mediocre junior season and his burning desire for greatness led to one of the greatest basketball transformations in Reno basketball history.

Roman led a star-studded Reno Husky team to a Regional and State Championship in 2006, ending the south’s 32 year streak of state titles. His tireless motor and gutsy plays were key drivers in Reno’s championship run, and there is no question who deserves the MVP title of that playoff run. Perceived by many to be too small and slow to play at the college level, Roman took his talents to Delta College in Stockton, CA to play under legendary coach Brian Katz, now at Sacramento State. Roman spent countless hours honing his skills and perfecting his shot the summer before Delta, and by the time he got to Stockton, he was more than ready. His freshman season he was second in the state in three point percentage (51%), and his sophomore season he led the state at (54%). In addition to his shooting prowess, Roman was an absolute defensive nightmare for opposing guards. With incredible awareness, quickness, anticipation, and hand speed, Roman fits the definition of a tenacious defender who creates countless turnovers for his opponents. Roman finished up his career at Colorado State University Pueblo, a Division II NCAA school where he finished top ten in the nation in steals both seasons; and was selected for the first-team, all conference honors his senior season.

Roman moved back to Reno after graduation and has been involved in youth basketball ever since. Aside from his day job, Roman is an assistant for Coach Ochs at Reno High and also coaches the Blueprint Basketball AAU team. We’re incredibly fortunate to have Roman on staff and are looking forward to his leadership at the camp!
